President of Zanzibar Honored the 33rd Chinese Medical Team
On the morning of August 26, the investiture of the 33rd China (Jiangsu) Medical Team for Zanzibar was held at the Presidential Office of Zanzibar.

The President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, reviewed and summarized the outstanding contributions of the Chinese government in strengthening the health system in Zanzibar over the past 60 years. He praised the hard work and selfless dedication of Chinese medical team, and especially appreciated this medical team for their extraordinary contribution, which has enabled the local doctors in Zanzibar to make a qualitative leap in laparoscopic technology.
Zhang Ming, the Acting Consul General of China in Zanzibar, pointed out that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the first Chinese medical team sent to Zanzibar. In the future, China will continue to strengthen cooperation with Zanzibar in the field of health care and promote the relationship between the two sides.

Nassor Ahmed Mazrui, Zanzibar’s Minister for Health, expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the excellent performance of Chinese medical team.
On behalf of the team, Jiang Guoqing, head of the medical team and Deputy Director of Surgery of Yangzhou University affiliated Subei People’s Hospital, said that a total of 39,924 outpatients and 13,699 inpatients have been treated, 4,170 selective and emergency operations had been completed, and 591 critically ill patients have been treated since their arrival in Zanzibar 11 months ago. At the same time, the medical team carried out 84 projects with new technology and held 20 large-scale free medical consultations for various groups of people. In addition, the medical team have achieved remarkable results in that they held eight major surgical events, signed a cooperation agreement with Zanzibar National University, and regularly trained medical students and staff in local hospitals.
