In the winter of 1950, a group of 35 international students from five Eastern European countries arrived in China, marking the beginning of a new era in China’s international education. The first episode of the multimedia series My Alma Mater is in China, titled Anna Eva Budura: A Blossoming Legacy of China-Romania Friendship, tells the remarkable story of Anna Eva Budura, Romania’s first-generation Sinologist, who traveled to China in 1950 and enrolled in the "Chinese Language Training Program for Eastern European Exchange Students" at Tsinghua University.
Upon her return to Romania, Anna dedicated herself to cultural exchange, education, and translation. Her lifelong work laid a critical foundation for Sinology studies in Romania, establishing her as both a guardian and a bridge of friendship between China and Romania.
