Leading African fashion for over 30 Years: Sheyang manufacturing

In countries like Tanzania, Kenya, and some Middle Eastern nations, it's common to see people wearing headscarves or wraps made from colorful patterned cloth. This vibrant printed cotton fabric, known as "kanga," can be transformed into stylish clothing with some tailoring and matching.

Turning our attention to the production workshop of Jiangsu Shayin Group Sheyang Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd., located in Linhai Town, Sheyang County, on February 7th, the tenth day of the Lunar New Year, workers were busy producing a batch of printed cotton fabric for export. Beside the packaging line, stacks of printed cotton fabric were neatly arranged in the storage area, ready to be shipped from Shanghai Port to Africa, thousands of miles away. The "Pipa Dance" brand printed cotton fabric produced here accounts for over 80% of the market share in countries like Tanzania.

"We started producing this printed cotton fabric in 1991. It's affordable, of excellent quality, and very popular in the local market," said Wang Bao, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Shayin Group Sheyang Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd. "Our annual direct foreign trade exports amount to over $30 million."

Kanga may seem simple, but it's not. The production at Sheyang Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd. that day mainly involved two specifications: one about 50 cm long and 10 cm wide, resembling a small pillow, made from wood or cotton fibers, with a fine and comfortable texture. The other is similar to a carpet, about 1.5 meters long. These printed cotton fabrics are not only used for clothing but also have many other uses. They can serve as a picnic blanket, a tablecloth, or even swaddling for newborns. According to Wang Bao, the design department at the headquarters in Zhangjiagang produces thousands of patterns annually based on consumer feedback to meet the needs of different people and scenarios.

The product's success in the market for over 30 years is not just due to the variety of patterns but also the high quality of the products. In 2009, Shayin Group, headquartered in Zhangjiagang, established itself in Sheyang. After more than a decade of rapid development, it has become a large enterprise with multiple production lines including textiles, printing and dyeing, heating, and sewage treatment. Additionally, the company has introduced 42 sets of air-jet spinning production lines, added 1,000 high-efficiency energy-saving air-jet looms, and partnered with Huansi Company to digitally transform its production processes, increasing its production capacity fourfold. With its robust quality, the company has won widespread recognition from foreign consumers.
