Nanjing's luxury shopping mall, Deji Plaza, has set a new record with 24.5 billion yuan in annual sales for 2024, according to industry data provider Winshang. This figure translates into an impressive sales volume of 40,000 yuan per minute, positioning the mall to potentially overtake SKP Beijing as China's top mall by sales.

Since opening in 2006, Deji Plaza has continuously expanded its offerings, particularly by introducing some of the most coveted global brands, and establishing a powerful brand presence for the mall itself. In 2024 alone, 53 brands made their Nanjing debuts or even their China debuts at the plaza, further solidifying its reputation as a trendsetting retail location.

The mall's traffic can also be attributed to its investment in public spaces and high-quality cultural programming, bringing visitors exceptional experience, even without shopping. Take, for example, the Year of the Snake-themed art installation for 2025, which quickly became a social media sensation and one of the most visited landmarks during Chinese New Year.

Shortly before that, internationally renowned digital artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) chose the Deji Art Museum to debut his first-ever solo exhibition, Beeple: Tales from a Synthetic Future, drawing considerable attention.

Currently, the construction of Phase III of Deji Plaza is underway. This development will introduce a mixed-use complex combining retail, offices, and hotel-style apartments. The three phases will be connected through underground plazas and skywalks, transforming Deji Plaza into a much larger commercial complex.
