Wuxi Shuofang Airport is set to open a port-of-entry duty-free shop, according to an announcement jointly released by five Chinese government departments.

Under the new policy, 41 listed ports of entry nationwide, including airports, seaports and land border crossings, will be approved to establish duty-free shops serving inbound international passengers.

The expansion marks the first such move in a decade. Unlike departure duty-free outlets, port-of-entry duty-free shops are subject to a more complex approval process, as arriving travelers are permitted to carry purchased goods into China.

Wuxi started the application for port-of-entry duty-free shop in 2024, driven by growing demand from international passengers. Wuxi Shuofang Airport serves as the primary aviation hub for Wuxi and nearby areas, including Suzhou.

Once operational, the Wuxi Shuofang Airport's shop will become Jiangsu's second port-of-entry duty-free location, following Nanjing Lukou International Airport. The addition is expected to further enhance the travel experience for international visitors to Jiangsu.
