East China’s Jiangsu province has recorded a continuous increase in investment in the energy sector with investment in 2025 remaining among the top in the country. A number of supporting power sources, new energy storage, and distribution network projects have been successively completed and put into operation, significantly improving the power supply capacity and providing solid support for the stable operation of Jiangsu's economy and energy security.

Unit 5 of the Huadian Wangting Power Plant Phase II Gas Turbine Project, China's first domestically produced commercial 300 MW heavy-duty gas turbine, has been put into operation.

Heavy duty gas turbines are the core equipment for building a new energy system. Unit 5 was jointly developed by China Huadian and multiple upstream and downstream units in the industrial chain, which has resulted in over 30 innovative achievements.

Yan Xiaofeng, deputy chief engineer of Huadian Jiangsu Wangting Power Plant, emphasized that Unit 5 could generate an annual power output of 2.44 billion kilowatt-hours, meeting the electricity needs of about 2.3 million residents for one year, while saving around 200,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 900,000 tons annually. He added that, while improving energy supply capacity, the unit also helps promote energy structure optimization and green, low-carbon development.

In addition to investing in the traditional energy sector, Jiangsu has continued to increase its investment in the new energy sector in a bid to achieve green development in the energy transition.

The offshore wind power projects, including Guoxin Dafeng 850,000 kW and Three Gorges Dafeng 800,000 kW, have achieved full capacity grid connection in the off-sea areas of Dafeng District of Yancheng. As the offshore wind power project with the largest single project capacity and the largest number of wind turbines built during Jiangsu's 14th Five Year Plan period, Guoxin Dafeng Offshore Wind Power Project is expected to generate 2.88 billion kilowatt hours of electricity each year, which can meet the annual electricity demand of about 1 million households.

Shen Yuejin, general manager of Jiangsu Guoxin Xinfeng Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., shared that the natural environment in the Yellow Sea is extremely complex, with frequent extreme weather such as typhoons and cold waves, resulting in a very short effective operation window throughout the year and posing significant challenges to project construction. He added that the company had independently developed and built multiple digital platforms, including a “Smart Construction Control System” and a “Sea Area Warning System,” to enable real-time control and intelligent early warning across all factors, increasing the utilization rate of the operation window by 20 percent.

With the implementation of a number of major energy projects representing new productivity, including the Jurong Pumped Storage Power Station and the Huai'an Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Generation Project, Jiangsu completed an investment of 227.8 billion yuan in the energy sector in 2025, exceeding the annual plan by 57.8 billion yuan, with the investment scale remaining among the top in the country. Jiangsu recorded a year-on-year increase of 15.2% in investment in non-fossil energy sectors, reaching 116.3 billion yuan, and a year-on-year increase of 7.1% in energy investment in the three coastal cities, reaching 91.5 billion yuan.
