Learning beyond the classroom: NJUIT students explore culture and industry in Luhe district
Students from the School of Transportation Engineering at Nanjing University of Industry and Technology (NJUIT) visited Luhe District on October 21 to explore its industries and local development.
Organised by the School's Communist Youth League Committee at the invitation of its counterpart in Xiongzhou Subdistrict, the visit gave students first-hand insights to inform their career planning and explore how their future careers could contribute to regional development. The programme is part of a wider effort to promote experiential learning through university-local partnerships.
The students and accompanying staff began at Luhe District Museum, where they explored the district's rich history and distinctive cultural traditions, deepening their understanding and appreciation of its heritage and identity.

At the Molifei Young OPC Community in Xiongzhou, they learned about business incubation for young entrepreneurs, community facilities and services, and policies to attract and support talent. The visit offered a first-hand view of an environment that encourages innovation, entrepreneurship and community integration among young professionals.

The group then visited a pecan plantation to learn about cultivation and crop management, value-added processing and the integration of agriculture and tourism. They saw how specialist agriculture can increase rural incomes and support rural revitalisation.

The visit, part of Nanjing city's experiential learning programme Qingning Practice, strengthened students'appreciation of local culture and broadened their understanding of career opportunities. The School of Transportation Engineering will continue to organise practical learning activities and deepen partnerships with local communities, helping students develop their careers alongside the city's growth.
