East China’s Jiangsu province has explored the motivation to inspire young talents to climb the peak of scientific research, strengthen the effective force to achieve breakthroughs in key core technologies, and promote the transformation and implementation of more scientific research achievements. Young talents are the source of national strategic talent, and the postdoctoral group is an important component of young scientific and technological talents on the front line of scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation.

At the Purple Mountain Laboratory, the research team is conducting testing and validation of 6G ubiquitous channel simulation software. As the world's first simulation software for all frequency bands and scenarios, what challenges has it solved? What breakthroughs have been made?

Huang Chen, a wireless communication researcher at Purple Mountain Laboratory, explained that wireless channels serve as the “highway” for signal transmission, adding that their simulation software can test what technologies are needed to achieve specific communication performance for 6G across different frequency bands and scenarios.

This technology has solved the long-standing problem of channel models being unable to effectively support multi band and multi scenario channel characteristic simulation, making it of great significance for China's 6G standardization process and the integration and development of network commonality theory and technology in air, space, earth, and sea. With this hard core achievement, Huang Chen and his team won the gold medal in the 3rd National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Huang Chen further explained that when the government launched a research initiative on 6G wireless channels, it aligned closely with his research direction, prompting him to apply for an outstanding postdoctoral project. He added that by addressing key bottlenecks and real-world challenges, the team has provided strong support for industrial upgrading, noting that the project funding has also facilitated both technological application and the development of young researchers, making it a win-win outcome.

In Jiangsu, over 70% of postdoctoral carriers are located in advanced manufacturing enterprises, and over 80% of postdoctoral talents are concentrated in advanced manufacturing industry clusters. In response to the problem of insufficient connection between postdoctoral research and industry demand, Jiangsu has implemented the "Excellent Postdoctoral Program", which focuses on supporting postdoctoral fellows who work in key industries and future industries that have made breakthroughs in key core technologies in Jiangsu, achieving deep integration between the talent chain and the industry chain.

At the Jiangsu Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base of Qingtao Energy, Sun Wenlu led his team in the research and development of core materials for solid-state batteries, helping enterprises tackle technological challenges and achieving multiple breakthroughs.

Highlighting her research direction, Sun Wenlu, a postdoctoral researcher at Qingtao Energy Jiangsu Province Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base, emphasized that polymer electrolytes can help resolve solid-state interface challenges in inorganic systems, noting that the postdoctoral program has energized their R&D efforts and advanced the industrial rollout of solid-state batteries.

At present, the "Excellent Postdoctoral Program" has facilitated 528 postdoctoral teams to connect with enterprise technology needs, and more than 86% of the research fields of the recipients directly serve the "1650" industrial system and the "51010" strategic emerging industry cluster in Jiangsu, resulting in more and more postdoctoral innovation and entrepreneurship achievements taking root and blossoming. Jiangsu has also opened a "green channel" for professional title evaluation, making the development of postdoctoral talents in Jiangsu more promising.

A “green channel” for professional title evaluation has been implemented in Jiangsu, with 58 public institution positions secured for high-level talents, Wang Wei, Director of the Technical Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, noted. He added that 14 postdoctoral researchers have been elected as academicians, while 45 have become Cheungkong Scholars, and said the province will further enhance its talent ecosystem to drive new quality productive forces.
